Department for Business Innovation and Skills London

Established on the 5th of June in 2009, The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) is a ministerial department of the British Government. It was formed by joining the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) and the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR). The aim of BIS is to support and encourage long lasting and sustainable growth of UK’s economy. The purpose is achieved by designing policies, guidelines and regulatory framework for various sectors of the economy by not losing sight of consumer rights. The department works under the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.

    Services

    Improvement and streamlining of regulatory process by reducing unnecessary delays in the form of red tape etc and outlining the framework for corporate governance and ensuring competitive markets in UK. It also focuses the marine and aerospace sectors of UK defence industry, automobile industry, chemical, construction, cyberspace, postal services, electronics and retail industry of Britain. It also aims for consumer protection and safety and oversees the employment policies. BIS also covers areas of enterprise and business support and formulates the trade and export control policy.

    By Tube

    From the St James Park tube station, move east on Broadway towards Carteret St and the move onto Tothill St. From there, turn right onto Dean Farrar St and then turn left onto Victoria St/A302 to find the BIS office will be on your right side. View Map

    By Bus

    The closest bus stop is “Westminster Abbey (R)” and is present across the street in front of BIS. You can use any of the buses numbering 11, 24, 148, 211, N2, N11, N44, N52 and N136 to reach the Bus stop. Just cross the street and you will reach the BIS office.
