Difference between Aspirin and Ibuprofen
Humans have been using painkillers for as long as one can remember to suppress pain, fever and other such ailments. Different painkillers work in different ways and therefore have different side-effects. Depending on the benefits of a painkiller and how greatly it outweighs the risk involved, people make a decision about which painkiller to use when they are not feeling well.
Two drugs that commonly come up whenever painkillers are being discussed are ibuprofen and Aspirin. A lot of people find themselves under the impression that the two drugs are pretty much the same, having little to no difference between them. However, this is a misconception, since both drugs are significantly different.
Aspirin is basically a trademark drug and is the property of Bayer, whereas Ibuprofen is a generic drug, which is sold under various brand names. Some of the most popular Ibuprofen brands include Advil, Nurofen, Motrin and Nuprin. You will not find Aspirin being sold under a different brand, since it itself is a brand.
Ibuprofen is used to treat symptoms of pain, fever, dysmenorrhea, pericarditis, rheumatoid arthritis and patent ductus arteriosus. Aspirin, on the other hand, is not only used to cure the symptoms that are cured through Ibuprofen, but additionally cure rheumatic fever and Kawasaki disease.
Another major difference between Aspirin and Ibuprofen is that the former is believed to have been there since as early as 400 BC, though Bayer AG started making it formally in 1850s. Ibuprofen, on the other hand, was discovered by the Boots Group in the 1960s.
Both Aspirin and Ibuprofen have plenty of undesirable side-effects, which are related to the ulcerations of the stomach. People with stomach ulcers are warned against the usage of both the drugs as a result. Ibuprofen can further lead to dyspepsia, nausea, rash, hypertension and dizziness. In some rare cases, it can even cause confusion, bronchospasm, renal impairment and heart failure.
