Difference between Bullmastiff and French Mastiff
The Mastiffs are considered to be large dogs and appear to be quite threatening because of their massive size. However, their physical appearance has got nothing to do with their temperament, as they are quite friendly and can be kept as pets at home.
Two such dog breeds are the Bullmastiff and the French Mastiff. They are quite different from other dog breeds and very popular nowadays.
If you look into the details of these dog breeds, you will see that there are a lot of similar characteristics between the two. Despite that, there are some uncommon features, which separate them completely.

When you look at the size of the French Mastiff, you will notice that it is taller and heavier than most of the dog breeds. An adult male from this breed can reach a height of almost 70 centimetres whereas the female can be around 65 centimetres. Moreover, they can weigh up to 68 kilograms, which clearly shows that they are one of the heaviest of their kind.
On the other hand the Bullmastiff doesn’t weigh as much as the French Mastiff. The former of the two weighs between 50 to 59 kilograms whereas it can reach a height of 69 centimetres. Although its size is quite similar to the French mastiff, yet the overall average is less.
As the name depicts, the French Mastiff originated from France and was accepted as a pure breed in 1970. Compared to it, there is confusion over the origin of the Bullmastiff, as no one is completely aware of its history. Despite that, one thing is sure that it belonged or originated from some part of Europe.
Although both these dog breeds have a short coat, there is a slight difference if you observe closely. The coat of the French Mastiff is quite soft and fine whereas the Bullmastiff has a dense and rough coat.
The head of the French Mastiff is quite large and it is probably the largest of all dog breeds in the world. Moreover, this dog is not found with a black mask but the situation is different in the Bullmastiff, as it does have this unique feature.
The average age of a Bullmastiff is more compared to the French Mastiff. The latter of the two can live about five to six years whereas the former has a lifespan of nine to 11 years. -
