Difference between Gene Expression and Gene Regulation

Gene expression and gene regulation are two different terms but many consider them same and use them in one context. Because gene expression and gene regulation take place together which is basically the main reason many people consider them related. However in reality, both terms serve different processes altogether. Gene expression means that particular gene information is being converted into structural forms while controlling of gene expression is called gene regulation. In addition, in gene expression, major biologically molecules are processed and RNA (ribonucleic acid) also takes part in this process.

    Gene expression

    Gene expression means that particular gene information is being converted into structural forms. These structural forms will have all the related material of a particular gene which was used in the expression process. When that process happens, it is called gene expression. In gene expression, many biologically molecules and macromolecules are made. These molecules serve as potential building blocks inside the human body. When we talk about gene expression, it means that this process express genes in the form of proteins. These proteins contain all of the information needed by gene expression. Three major steps in gene expression make this process more interesting. The transcription, RNA processing and translation, post translations, protein modification and non-coding RNA maturation are steps which complete gene expression. Each one of these steps is crucial to ensure that the entire process of Gene Expression is done correctly and that all of the genetic materials are properly translated.

    Gene regulation

    Controlling of gene expression means gene regulation. In order to control the DNA information, gene regulation is essential to control as well. DNA information is very complex and the majority of the human body has non coding sequence of DNA. On the other hand, still this non coding sequence of DNA functions in gene regulation. Introns and exons codes are two different non coding sequences. Basically gene regulation controls the overall speed of gene expression. This is very important as it ensure that the coding sequences of the genes are replicated and that the entire process is done correctly. It happens mostly in transcription, RNS splicing, RNA transporting, translation and mRNA degradation. The enzyme expression is also called and related to gene regulation. The enzyme expression is used to as Gene Regulation and control the process accordingly. Gene regulation also helps to provide versatility to all the cells via gene expression. The essential controlling part makes sure that nothing goes wrong in gene expression.
