Difference between Geologist and Geophysicist
Geology and Geophysicist are two different professionals but many think that both professions do the same kind of work and their study also shows that they are closely related with each other. However, in actual terms, both professionals are quite different from each other and their professions are also very different. Though its related with the study of Earth and it’s overall structure but still both professions have their own domains of research. A professional who does extensive study regarding the actual structure of the Earth is called a Geologist, while Geophysics is the actual name of the study about the Earth.

Geologist
A professional who does extensive study regarding Earth and its structure is called a geologist. A geologist often studies about rocks along with Earth and different structures of the planet. Different places have different kinds of earth layers. Even the things lie beneath the earth, rocks and lowest surfaces also comes under observation of a geologist. A professional geologist will also study about Earth and all the processes that take place during any activity underneath or top of surface of the planet. Geologists also study about different types of rocks and their inner properties. Many companies around the world use the services of geologists as they help in evaluation of water resources along with exploration of oil resources and other minerals. Being a geologist is in very high demand these days as the oil and gas sector is always interested in finding the best possible place to drill. A trained geologist can read the features of the rocks and terrain to better understand what is going on under the layers. They study about climate change as well. Geologists are specialist people who extensively study about earthquakes and volcanoes. The physical process which takes place underneath earth is a very complex branch of geology but still with modern tools and new ways of research is helping professionals in many ways.

Geophysicist
The actual study of physics of Earth is called geophysics. This subject largely talks about different types of the earth's surface, layers and all types of rocks with their composition. Physical process of tectonic movements along with changes in the magnetic field or mainly about gravitational field of the Earth is also closely related with geophysics. The formation of rocks along with the study of weathering is also discussed in geophysics. The seismic activities, magma formation, glacier activities, snow formation and many other similar processes are also part of this study.
