Difference between Glucagon and Glycogen

Glucagon and Glycogen are two different terms but many believe that these two are same and serve the same purpose in the human body. You need to understand that every living organism needs plenty of storage of different compounds which are essential for living and for consistent growth. These different compounds are mixed in food which usually is called utilisation of storage. Every living thing has its own mechanism. In order to understand easily, you can say that in animals these storage compounds are called Glycogen and in other living organism such as plants, starch as Glucagon.

    Glucagon

For all the utilisation of different compounds which mainly created by the alpha cells in an any living being through the islets of Langerhans in pancreas is called Glucagon. The biochemical structure of the main single polypeptide chain with 29 amino acids is also called Glucagon. The activate phosphorylase enzyme in any living gets lower in blood while the glucose level also decreases, the remaining food compound is what we call are Glucagon. It is also important to understand that glucose is also created with the extra synthesis in glucose and of non-carbohydrate sources as well. You need to understand that Glucagon is basically a hormone and also a form of polypeptide. It is a main thing in various compounds which play a very vital role in regulating the blood sugar and glucose concentration. It is also lower in default level. From synthesized by the alpha cells, the Glucagon also stored in the liver and other living being’s cells.

    Glycogen

The main storage of carbohydrate polymer in other animals as well as in humans is called Glycogen. You need to understand that it is a branched chain of α-D-glucose. This class of glucose is like starch plants granules in animal cells. It is also important to know that Glycogen is found more in liver than in brain and heart cells. Glycogen is a type of polysaccharide which is essential for animals as well as humans. The main thing Glycogen does in any living being is to make different food compounds from various storage compounds.
