Difference between Jealous and Possessive

Human nature is one of the most complicated things in this world. No one can truly claim to understand anyone’s nature, not even his or her own. The humans will react to various situations in various manners and will act differently in different circumstances.

There are common traits that are found in people. Some of them are good like being helpful and nice to others while there are others that are not so desirable such as jealousy and possessiveness. These are two of the worst traits a person can have as they cause all kinds of problems.

There are similar traits but their way of operating is different. A person who is jealous does not like that others have something or someone that he or she does not possess. On the other hand, possessiveness is the inability to share someone or something that may be yours or not. It can be something that you perceive to be yours.

    Jealousy

It is simply the inability of one to be able to come to terms with others having better things in life, even if it is something that is just perceived. A jealous person wants to take things away from others and often believes that no one else has the right to have better products than him or her.

A person who is jealous may actually be someone who has all the things in life except for contentment. Such people often cause trouble for others and pass certain comments, the basis of which is hard to understand. They not only make lives of others problematic but themselves live in a self created torture.

It has a lot to do with the psyche of a person and psychological treatment can make the situation much better.

    Possessiveness

It is generally related more to humans than objects. A person may be possessive about another person for no particular reason. In such a case, the possessive person will feel bad if the other person is paying attention to others or not giving enough attention to him/her.

Same can be the case with objects when one is not able to share something or in some cases anything.

The root cause often is some deep down fear of losing the person or the object and an unconscious insecurity.

It is one of the main reasons behind relationship break ups.
