Other than the taste, there are quite a few differences between a jerky and biltong, which will help you identify the two dishes. Even if you are not an expert, you will be able to spot your favourite form of meat easily.
The most important difference between the two is that the jerky is cooked on low heat with different ingredients. Once it gets tender, you can eat it and serve it to your family too. However, the biltong doesn’t require any cooking at all. You can simply buy it from the market and eat it whenever you like.
Although both the jerky and biltong are dried meats, yet there is some moisture left in the latter of the two, which makes it somewhat juicier compared to the former. However, both are taken with sauces that compliment them.
When you look at both these meats, you will clearly notice that the biltong is much thicker compared to the jerky. However, the latter of the two can be used as a replacement for an entire meal.
While preparing a jerky, you don’t necessarily have to wash it with vinegar, as it gets tender after being cooked. Compared to that, the biltong needs marinating with vinegar otherwise you don’t get the desired results.
Interestingly, the biltong can also be used as a teething aid for toddlers, as it is not harmful at all for the young ones. Moreover, it can be dried with the help of special boxes known as biltong boxes. -
