Difference between Lansoprazole and Omeprazole
Lansoprazole and Omeprazole are two drugs that fall under the category of proton pump inhibitors. Both drugs are designed to treat various areas of the gastrointestinal system but differ in their overall purpose and mechanisms. There is also a slight difference in their chemical compounds and effects on mitochondrial membranes. Lansoprazole largely treats secretions in the stomach while Omeprazole treats severe damage of the esophagus and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Omeprazole and Lansoprazole are both very effective and highly prescribed by many doctors who treat stomach or gastrointestinal diseases.

Lansoprazole
Its trade name is Prevacid and this drug is used for treating acid secretion in the stomach. A disease like Zollinger is also treated by this highly effective drug. Its chemical formula gives strength to stomach muscles and the proton pump inhibitor formula lowers the amount of acid in one’s stomach. The treatment of Ellison Syndrome is a complicated process with Lansoprazole’s combination of antibiotics and granular suspension. The extra coating on the tablet basically gives you instant relief which is only designed to protect your stomach. The chemical bonding of this tablet and the granular suspension is also a great way to treat many stomach related diseases. Slight harmful effects are also there if you use Lansoprazole extensively and without a prescription from your doctor. The chronic use of this drug can cause stomach cancer. Doctors still do not recommend this drug extensively and limit the patient's use to the minimum effective amount. Like most drugs used to treat gastrointestinal issues, prolonged use can cause more damage to the patient. The tendency to have bone fractures especially in hips and wrists is also an alarming side effect.

This drug will not give you quick relief in heartburn as Omeprazole is highly effective in the long term relief from gastrointestinal issues. Doctors say that Omeprazole has shown good results in patients who have Vitamin B12 deficiency. This drug is widely used for treating various gastrointestinal problems but the side effects of this drug are quite similar to Lansoprazole.
