Difference between Lehenga and Saree

Both the lehenga and saree are traditional Indian sub-continental dresses, commonly worn by women on special occasions. However, these dresses are not known to people all over the world, so some of them can get confused between them.

If you talk to Indians and ask them the difference between the two dresses, you will get the correct answer straight away, as such clothes are commonly worn in their country. Although this dress is only for women, the Indian men will also be able to tell you the clear dissimilarities between the two.

However, people from other countries and regions will have trouble differentiating between the two. The main reason for that is the recent creation of lehenga saree, which combines both these dresses to make one masterpiece.

Nevertheless, there are clear differences between a lehenga and a saree and you need to know them before you end up buying something not appropriate for an occasion.

First of all, you should be aware of the fact that sarees are more commonly worn than lehengas and are considered more comfortable. Women make regular appearances in Bollywood flicks wearing sarees, and if you walk around the streets of India, you will see how popular the dress is. Most of the women you see will be wearing white sarees.

On the other hand, lehengas are not that common and are normally reserved for special occasions. However, they too can be worn ordinarily.

Moreover, the lehenga is most commonly worn by brides on their weddings, while sarees are worn by the rest of the women in order to make the bride stand out.

Another major difference between saree and lehenga is that the former of the two is an unstitched piece of cloth and has to be wrapped around properly to cover the body.

Things are different when you talk about a lehenga, as it is properly stitched and can be worn easily like other dresses.

Generally speaking, a lehenga also supports more embroidery as compared to a saree, which is usually kept light.
