Difference between Luther and Calvin
Luther and Calvin were two people who had different opinions about the Christian religion. Given the fact that both doctrines fall under Christianity, a big chunk of the population is unable to segregate them from each other. However, one should be very vigilant and thorough in reviewing literature to understand the difference between them. Not to mention, as both of these doctrines are associated with Christianity, so there may be some similarities in their basic belief but they differ greatly in how they attempt to fulfill their faith.
The basic difference between Luther and Calvin is that of their origins. Luther is among the oldest doctrines of Christianity and by the time Martin Luther released his 95 theses to the general public, John Calvin was less than 10 years of age. One of the most important differences in their belief is that Luther claimed that God is the supreme ruler but every man has free will. In contrast, Calvin did not believe on this claim as he argues that God is the ultimate ruler and we are bound to go his way.
On the other hand, Luther claimed that no matter what a person does in his life, he will be rewarded with heaven. Calvin believed that God will either reward the People with heaven for their good or the people will be punished in hell. Luther had firm belief in the conventional way of confessions while Calvin was more concerned with doing good in life.
Calvin argues that God is the ultimate ruler and the purpose of the mankind is to bring glory to him through his/her acts of kindness and gentleness. However, Luther gave more importance to confessions. In addition, the belief of Luther was more aligned with Catholics.

Luther:
Lutherans are the follower of Martin Luther who followed the catholic ways of religion. He put most of his focus on the concept and benefits of confession. Most of the Lutherans are located in Germany and they believe that no matter how you spend your life, a person will be rewarded with heaven.

Calvin:
John Calvin stated that a person has to spend his life in an ideal way to earn his way to heaven. He argued that those who act good will surely go to heaven while the rest will be punished in hell.
