Difference between Suppressor and Silencer

Silencer and suppressor are two terms that you often come across and both are often confused to be the same. There are certain features that make them similar but their actual functionality is totally different.
The main purpose of a silencer is to mute the sound of the gun being fired so that there is no knowledge of discharge of a weapon. On the other hand, a suppressor will for the most part get rid of the flash caused by the discharge of a firearm and will partially suppress the sound as well.
A silencer is a great option for use when the action is to be performed without letting the other party know about it. A suppressor is useful when a person does not want to give away the location where he or she is placed.
A silencer is equally effective during the day or night as the sound is equally loud. A suppressor on the other hand is very important during the night since the flash can be identified from a long distance when it is dark.

Suppressor
A suppressor kills the flash caused by the discharge of gases after a weapon is discharged. It also eliminates the sound caused partially but not entirely. It is particularly crucial during the night since it does not allow the opposing party to know the exact location of the person who is firing.

Silencer
It is a piece of equipment that is used to silence the sound of the discharge of a firearm. It makes the weapon stealthier and much more effective. It is generally used in close quarters as law enforcement agencies do not want criminals to react to the action.
