Difference Between Tour and Travel
While tour and travel are words which can be used interchangeably, they have subtle differences of meaning. Generally speaking, both terms are applied to people who are on a journey, trip or voyage. However, tourism is associated with sightseeing, excitement and the pleasure of discovery. As for travel – one can travel from one place to another due to several reasons. Furthermore, a tour can consist of several trips, or require the tourist to visit various places.
Hence, we can say a tour refers to a planned set of trips mainly for educational or entertainment purposes. For instance, one can take a business, educational or musical tour to different countries. Here the person will travel to different locations within the same country to fulfil his or her commitments or learn about the places. Travel on the other hand, has more to do with the journey rather than the destination. Travelers are people who are always on the move, from one place to another.
The word travel further denotes a regular practice or habit. When listing your hobbies, you would say you like to travel, not tour. Travel is further seen as a more ordinary and common thing in today’s world as opposed to touring, which is reserved for special occasions, seasons or events.
In a nutshell, both terms have relatively the same meanings, indicating your desire of exploring other regions, cities, countries, meeting new people and getting accustomed to other cultures for a certain period of time. The length or duration of your tour or travel will vary according to your objectives and preferences.
