Difference Between Trap and Skeet

Trap and skeet are just two clay shooting events amongst 20 different clay shooting types. Although both these clay shooting events are  similar to each other, there are quite a few differences between the two.

In a trap event, targets move away from the shooter. On the other hand, clay targets are subjected from left to right or the other way around in front of the shooter in skeet shooting.

This difference directly results into another difference between trap and skeet shooting i.e. distance between target and the shooter. In trap shooting, distance between target and shooters keeps on increasing until the shooter successfully shoots down the target or it falls to the ground. On the other hand, there is no change of distance between target and shooter in skeet shooting no matter how much time is taken by the shooter.

In trap shooting, the shooter does not know the exact location from where a target would be subjected outwards. The same is not true in skeet shooting because targets are released from fixed stations. This means that targets in skeet shooting can cross each other, unlike trap shooting.

Furthermore, there is no change in the height and speed of a target in skeet shooting whereas targets in trap shooting are released at varying angles, speed and height.

Last, but not the least, there is a difference between trap and skeet shooting in terms of the position of the shooter in the shooting field. Generally, a shooter can shoot from 8 different spots in skeet shooting. However, in trap, there a literally infinite shooting spots that a shooter can shoot from. Similarly, skeet machine does not change it location whereas a trap machine can release the target from any spot within the shooting field.
