Difference Between VirtualBox, VMware and Parallels
VirtualBox, VMware and Parallels are different types of virtualisation software. VirtualBox is a virtualisation software package for x86 while VMware is for Windows, Linux and Mac OSX. On the other hand, Parallels is a hardware emulation virtualisation that is for Mac computers with Intel chips. This type of software belongs to the Platform Virtual Machines category and provides the ability to emulate a physical computer machine. Most of the software also allows other machines to work on other physical platforms.
Out of all these three, VirtualBox is the most famous. After the arrival of VirtualBox, VMware and Parallels, the competition gets tougher to achieve maximum efficiency.

VirtualBox is virtualisation software package for x86. This software is developed by Oracle Corporation. It belongs to their virtualisation product tree. Earlier when it was originally developed by Innotek GmbH, it was not very famous in the market but as soon as it was bought by Sun Microsystems, it gained much publicity not only in the US and Western Countries but Asian countries also liked it. This software is basically installed on top of your already installed operating system. You can run and load different operating systems using this software including Guest Oss. VMware is also virtualisation software that is developed by VMware Inc. This software can be run on Linux, Windows, Mac and OSX. This virtualisation software can run directly on hosting server as they work on hypervisor technology. This is also and great quality of VMware that it can run on multiple x86 and x86-64. VMware Fusion is another virtualisation software that is introduced for Mac users.

It is another type of virtualisation software that gives hardware emulation. This software has special characteristics for Mac based computers using Intel components. This software helps to achieve the required level of efficiency equal to a stand-alone machine. It provides high profitability in organisations which use this software. Along with Mac computers, this software can also run on Mac OS X 10.4. Parallels software also runs on separate servers including OS X Leopard Server and Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server.
