Dubai Sports City Overview

The Dubai Sports City is another mega project in Dubai land, and as the name suggests it is a mixed-use sports area that is the first of its kind in the world. The entire project was planned on 50 million square feet of space near to Emirates road. With a budget of 4 billion dollars, Dubai Sports City boasts four arenas. The first is a 60,000 seat outdoor stadium that is meant for different types of events including rugby, soccer and athletics. The second stadium is a purpose built cricket stadium that can accommodate 25,000 people. The third stadium is smaller and has capacity for 10,000 fans and has an indoor venue for sports and concerts. The smallest of the four arenas is the hockey stadium which has room for only 5,000 spectators. Dubai Sports City has a world class golf course and several sports academies to help train local and international athletes.

    History

    Dubai Sports City started its journey as an idea in the minds of Abdulrahim Al Zarooni, Abdulrahman Bukhatir and Abdulrahman Falaknaz. The project was part of the rulers of Dubai's vision of making the city a sporting hub for countries in the region and beyond. Master developers Dubai Properties are at the helm of the project which is still under construction. However, some major parts of Dubai Sports City have been completed. The Ernie Els designed golf course was completed in 2008. The cricket stadium was inaugurated in 2009 and is already acting as the home ground for the Pakistan cricket team and has hosted several cricket series.
