Elephant and Castle is located in the Borough of Southwark and acts as a major crossroad in central London. The area has a long history and was famous for shopping and entertainment. It was so popular that residents started calling it “the Piccadilly of South London.” The Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre is a reminder of this time of optimism. The centre was opened in 1965 and was the first covered shopping center in Europe. Today, the center has a good mix of retail, office and leisure venues. The management of the building states that they have close to 100% occupancy for their 135,000 square feet of retail space. Furthermore, 90,000 square feet of offices and 90,000 square feet of leisure facilities are also filled up.
