Facebook Unites A Family After 21 Years

Undoubtedly, the influx of internet in today’s era has revolutionized our lives. Now we are more informed and updated, more connected to our social networks, and ironically, we are more “ADDICTED” to social networking sites as well. But we must acknowledge the positives of this technology as it also helps a lot in many ways. Just two weeks earlier, a man found his car on eBay which was stolen 42 years ago. Similarly, a 57 year old paralyzed man sent his first tweet on twitter to connect himself to the rest of the world. But a recent incident has somehow beat them all. After a wait of more than 2 decades, and the advent of a social network giant, a lost family has found each other.

After years and years of effort, a father finally found his ex-wife and long-lost son on Facebook. In order to find his family, he searched them on various Internet sites and even hired a private detective specifically for this task but unfortunately nothing seemed to work.

It was more than two decades ago when Don Gibson, who was working in US air force, met Chrissie in U.K. She got married to him and gave birth to a baby boy, Craig, now 22. Chrissie didn’t want to leave the two sons from her previous marriage, which was eventually the main reason of conflict between Gibson and Chrissie, that led to both of them losing contact with each other. At that time, Craig wasn’t young enough to search for his father.

For many years, both Don Craig tried to search each other but they didn’t succeed. Don even hired a Scotland Yard private detective for this task and consulted various online tracking companies. According to Craig, he was searching his father from the age of 12 on different social media sites.

Fortunately, last month when Don connected to Facebook, he found Craig’s step brother through whom he located Craig. He sent a message to Craig: “Do you know who I am? Would you like to know. Ask whatever you want. Also tell your mum I said hi. I think of you often. Hope you are all well. Hope to hear from you soon.”

Both of them talked on Skype on June 16 and now the family is set to reconnect in October when Don goes to the U.K.
