Facebook Users Complained of 2 Hours Blackout
Facebook was reportedly down for two hours on Thursday, May 31 as the team at the social network quickly resolved the problem so that most users could connect back to the site. Some users continued facing problems even after two hours but reports were not confirmed. The tech giant has not commented on the cause of the black out and many media outlets have contacted the company for answers without any results.
Twitter started showing numerous messages of the outage starting at 4:26pm PST. Many of the messages were of a funny nature and correlated the drop of service with the drop in share prices of Facebook.
The month of May has not been good for Facebook as far as positive PR is concerned. The build up to the companies highly anticipated IPO was a fizzle as technical glitches and bad revenue news pushed the share prices of the company down. The plummeting stock continued its decline after bad press and lawsuits starting making headlines. By Thursday the price of the world’s largest social network had stabilized slightly below $30 after it hit a low of $26.83.
Facebook has had a fairly good track record of keeping its site operational even with a reported 800 million regular users. The site has faced down time in the past including one in 2010 caused by a database problem. The technology giant is very keen about making sure the site is running at all times because without users logging in the company does not make any revenue. The ad based income can take a big hit if Facebook becomes unresponsive.
The company CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, is not at the company’s head quarters and is honeymooning with his new wife in Europe. The newly minted billionaire wed his long time girlfriend immediately after his company went public.
