Fattoush Recipe Step by Step

Fattoush is a scrumptious and easy-to-prepare salad which is a perfect blend of fresh vegetables and toasted pita bread. Traditionally, this unique salad is drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with ground sumac, which adds depth to it. It is better to let the Fattoush salad sit for some time prior to serving it in order to allow the crunchy pita bread to absorb up the lemony dressing properly.

Now, if you are ready to make the Fattoush salad at home then simply follow the given below simple instructions:

Utensils: Serving Bowl, Large Spoon, Sauce Pan, Mixing Bowl, Screw-top Jar, Stove, Wire Rack

Ingredients:
– 2 cups olive oil
– 2 pieces pita bread – each cut into 4 pieces
– 500g cherry tomatoes, halved
– 2 Lebanese cucumbers- halved lengthways, deseeded, chopped
– 1 red capsicum – chopped
– 3 small radish – trimmed, thinly sliced
– 4 green onions – chopped
– 1 cup flat-leaf parsley leaves – coarsely chopped
– 1/2 cup mint leaves – coarsely chopped
– 1 tablespoon sumac

Dressing:
– 1/4 cup olive oil
– 1/2 cup lemon juice
– 2 teaspoons sumac

    Make the Fattoush dressing

    Take a screw-top jar and place 1/4 cup of olive oil, 1/2 cup of lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of sumac in it. Place the lid of the jar at the top to seal it thoroughly. Now, shake the jar well for a few minutes until all the ingredients mix completely and form a thick juicy mixture. Set it aside for some time until you make the salad.

    Toast the pita bread

    Pour 2 cups olive oil in a large sauce pan and place it on your stove over medium heat. Place the two pieces of pita breads in the sauce pan once the oil is hot. Turn the pita bread for 1 to 2 minutes or until golden and crispy. Turn off the heat, remove the sauce pan and transfer the pita breads to a wire rack in order to drain the oil.

    Prepare the salad

    Take a large serving bowl and place the cucumbers, tomatoes, radish, capsicum, onions, mint and parsley in it. Top the ingredients with 1 tablespoon of sumac. Mix the ingredients with a large mixing spoon.

    Note: Add in the salad ingredients according the proportions mentioned above, under the ingredients.

    Drizzle the salad with the lemon dressing

    Now, drizzle the salad with the previously prepared lemon dressing and gently toss both mixtures to coat all the ingredients.

    Add in the toasted pita bread

    Break the two pita breads into four pieces each and add them to the salad.

    Set the Fattoush salad aside for some time

    Mix the pieces of the pita breads with the salad and set it aside for some time until the bread absorbs the lemon dressing properly. Once the salad marinates well, serve it with six medium salad bowls.
