    History

In 1831 a group of literary people gathered together under the patronage of Duke of Sussex to form the Garrick Club. Their suggestion was that this club should be a place where knowledgeable people and actors can meet up to have some fruitful discussions. The club was named after David Garrick who was a legendary actor in the eighteenth century. Later in 1835, Robert Durrant bought 400 paintings of Charles Mathews and he gave these collections to the club, which is growing with the passage of time.
