How to Adjust Bike Handlebars on a Beach Cruiser

If bicycle riding is your passion, a beach cruiser is one the best options for you. Beach cruisers were first conceived by Schwinn Bicycle Co. and have undergone numerous evaluation phases ever since. With the passage of time, the handlebar on a cruiser may deviate from its original location. In this situation, you need to the handlebar to make sure you are riding a safe bicycle. The only tool you will need to accomplish this task is a 5 millimetre hex key. Here is how you can bike handlebar on a beach cruise.

    Adjusting the angle of handlebars

    In order to adjust the angle of the handlebar on a beach cruise, you need to loosen the stem clamp bolt. But before you can loosen the bolt, you need to locate it. In almost all beach cruise bikes, the stem clamp bolt is located where the handlebar meets the stem.

    Rotate the stem clamp bolt anticlockwise with a 5mm hex key in order to loosen it. Remember that you are just trying to loosen the bolt, not open it, so do not rotate the bolt too much.

    Keeping the handlebar even spaced on both sides of the beach cruise, make necessary adjustments to the angle of the handlebar.

    Once the handlebar is at the appropriate angle, simply tighten the stem bolt with the same hex key that you used to loosen it. To tighten the stem clamp bolt, you will have to rotate it clockwise.

    Adjusting the height of handlebars

    In order to adjust the angle of the handlebar on a beach cruise, you need to loosen the stem expander bolt. You will find the stem expander bolt on the stem of the beach cruise, exactly at the point where the stem enters the head tube.

    Use a 5mm hex key and loosen the stem expander bolt by rotating it counter clockwise.

    Make necessary adjustments to the height of the handlebar by raising or lowering the stem. Make sure you keep an eye on the minimum insertion line which should be marked somewhere along the side of the stem.  If you raise the handlebar above the minimum insertion line, it will detach completely.

    Once you have brought the handlebar at a comfortable height, tighten the stem expander bolt just a little by rotating it clockwise.

    To make sure that the handle bar has been adjusted properly, you just need to ensure that the handlebar is at an angle of 90 degrees to the front wheel. You can accomplish this by standing over the front wheel and looking down at the handlebar.

    Readjust the handlebar if required. Otherwise, completely tighten the stem expander bolt.
