How to Appreciate and Interpret Art
Human beings have always felt the desire to create different things. Over the previous centuries, art has developed and evolved tremendously, so much so that we can find art everywhere, at our homes, offices, schools, museums, art galleries and at times at roads as well. However, it is extremely unfortunate that a big portion of our society is not able to appreciate and interpret art in its true spirit.
If you can develop an aesthetic sense and learn to interpret art, you can open the doors to a new world and will start perceiving changing situations in a different manner.

1
Identify the type of art
Whenever you come across an artwork, you must be able to identify its type first of all. You should know the basic differences between a painting, a sculpture or an architectural building and their physical attributes. Understand if an artwork is 2 dimensional or 3 dimensional. Apart from that, you should have basic knowhow about different mediums that are used in a piece of art like oil paint, mixed media, digital art, watercolour etc. -
2
Try to deeply analyse the content
Having assessed the materials used in an artwork, you should now analyse the message that is given through it. Try to read the mind of the artist. See what is happening inside the artwork, which is called the content. An artist might have been trying to portray a belief, an idea or any social evil. It may be political satire or any other personal view of the artist. It is impossible for anyone to judge the content in a blink of an eye; therefore, you should take your time before you interpret or appreciate a piece of art. -
3
Focus on the style of the artist
Once you have spent some time on analysing the material and the content of an artwork, the next step for you is to observe the style which the artist has adopted to express his message. Assess if the style is abstract, realistic, expressive or idealised. The style of the artist will actually help you interpret art in a more efficient manner. -

Join an art school
If you are a beginner, it is important for you to learn the basics of art and its different types. Otherwise, you would not be able to comprehend or appreciate the artwork. Therefore, it is recommended that you join an art school in your town for a few weeks to help improve your understanding about art.
