How To Attach a Rearview Mirror

Although very conventional, a rear view mirror is one of the most important safety features when you are driving. It can be very dangerous if you are driving without a rear view mirror and an traffic police officer will impose fine because it is a crime to drive without a rear view mirror.

Did the rear view mirror of car break somehow? Get a new one attached as soon as possible. Alternatively, buy a rear view mirror from the market and attach it yourself to save money.

Things Required:

– Rear view mirror
– Rear view mirror installation kit
– Masking tape or felt pen
– Wrench or screwdriver
– Razor blade
– Rubbing alcohol

    From an auto parts store, but a new rear view mirror and a rear view mirror installation kit.

    Park your car in shade. The temperature should be between 50 and 75 degree Fahrenheit. If the glass is too hot, adhesive will not stick properly.

    In new car models, the rear view mirror is not directly glued to the glass. Instead, a button holding the rear view mirror is glued to the glass. Detach the button from the rear view mirror using a wrench or a screw driver.

    There may be excess glue accumulated on the windshield from the last rear view mirror. Get rid of it using a razor blade. Do not scrape too vigorously or else you may leave scratches on the windshield.

    Locate and mark the position of the button. Use masking tape or a felt pen on the other side of the windshield for this purpose. This will help you identify the location of the button.

    An adhesive material would have been provided in the rear view mirror installation kit. Open the vial of adhesive. Use a razor blade to force open the vial if you cannot open it in the first go. Squeeze an appropriate amount of glue on the button from the vial. Press the button against the windshield and make sure that you fix it at the spot that you marked in the earlier step. In order to give it time to settle, keep holding the button in place for at least one minute.

    Give another 30 minutes to let the button settle properly. After that, attach the rear view mirror to the button.
