How to Audition for Television
Auditioning for television is not an easy task, especially if you are going to act on the smaller screen for the first time. A proper homework i.e. remembering your dialogue, some practice and confidence can nevertheless can help you do the job successfully. It is highly recommended to prepare yourself properly before giving the audition. You are most likely to let yourself down and disappoint the producers and directors if you just turn up and start acting without prior preparation.

1
Go Over Your Character
Start preparation for auditioning by going over your character. First of all you should visualise the character. Know how you can perform it, and then think of the breakdown or synopsis of the character. This should help you understand your character thoroughly. -
2
Watch Previous Work
If it is an ongoing drama serial for which you are going to audition, you should watch previous episodes. It is likely that you have been watching the entire programme regularly, but if not, have some previous episodes available and then learn about the characters from it. -
3
Remember Your Script
Go over your script again and again and try to remember it by heart. If you remember the script very well, you are most likely to act well on it, and especially feel more confident. If you cannot remember the dialogues, this can put you in some difficulty at the time of auditioning. You might need to look at the dialogues again and again, and this can take your focus off the acting itself. -
4
Act Before Mirror
Before going for auditioning, act before a mirror as many times as you can. You can also act in front of your family members and get feedback from them. However, you cannot count on that feedback too much, because they might find it hard to point errors. -
5
Be Confident in Front of Camera
Facing a television camera is not an easy task. This can hurt the confidence of some of even experienced actors. At the time you are given an opportunity on your turn to perform in front of a camera, be confident and say what you have to by looking straight into it. Keep your expressions balanced. Do not look angry or too friendly, but fit in the requirement of the character.
