Bookkeeping is a branch of accounting, probably the most basic one. A bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining ledgers and the daily transactions of a business. While on paper being a bookkeepers seems easy, the job itself is quite challenging, especially if you are working for a huge organisation. A bookkeeper should not only be a qualified professional but also someone who loves working with numbers.

    Get a graduate degree in account or business. Mainly, you will need to have a degree in bookkeeping or accounting to march towards the career.     Learn how to use accounting and bookkeeping software. This will give you an edge over others when demonstrating your skills onboard. Since there are too many accounting students out there with just a handful of good jobs, you would want to have something others do not.     Go for an internship with a local business for a bookkeeping job. Hands on experience will give you a better understanding of the job and the field in its entirety. Also, since accounting is a vast field, an internship would allow you to spot your areas of interest.

    If you can, go for a certification course in your country. Students of the USA can go for a certification course by the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers. This certification can increase your chances of scoring a decent job by far and wide.

    Gain work experience. You will have to have at least 2 years of work experience to qualify for the American Institute of Professional Bookkeeping.
