Complete Schooling
Before even you think have an education or training in the plumbing field, you should complete your regular education. Complete your schooling at least, and select subjects such as mathematics, science and plumbing. This will help you easing into plumbing trade. -

Professional Training
You can enroll into a local vocational institute on completion of your schooling to get training in plumbing. The course line of many of these institutions forms the basis of direct training in sewage disposal, piping, fitting, household maintenance and fabrication. -

Apply For Apprenticeship
This is the first challenging step for you in the process of becoming a plumber. You will have to fill out an application form to become an apprentice plumber. For this you have to be 18 years old, have completed your schooling on July 01 of the year you apply for apprenticeship. The application processing fee is$35, which you must pay. -

Differential Aptitude Test and Interview
On acceptance of your application you will be invited to take a differential aptitude test, and a hands-on dexterity testing. On completion this you will be required to appear for an interview before a committee of trustee. -

Apprenticeship Training
The next step for you is to complete 6000 hours of training in the field in five years time. In addition you will need completion of 1240 hours of classroom education with the training. -

Apply for License
On completion of apprenticeship you can apply for license to become a licensed plumber. For this, you have to pass an exam with answering 70 percent questions right. The exam consists of two parts. One part is about the business and law. For example, you will be asked about the bidding process and labor laws etc, and second part is plumbing. This includes water distribution planning, fixing, bonding, fitting and drainage disposal etc. You have answer questions within the areas of the trade you have learned while being trained. -

You can officially start taking jobs through whatever process is required at the time of publicity of a plumber requirement. It is better once you are immersed into the trade, take further courses and training to consistently progress in the profession.
