Be Passionate
This is a career that you must be passionate about. It is not an easy task as you will be coming across people that have issues and may not be easy every time. Learn Sign Language
Since you will be interpreting it, you must first know the sign language yourself. There are courses which you can enrol and learn it. Make sure that you pay attention towards the study process as this is the basis of your understanding. -

Practice
Practice sign language with hearing impaired people. This will allow you to hone your skills as there is no replacement of practice. You can volunteer at a health care facility or a specialised clinic for this purpose and you should get in full flow within little time. This will reflect well on your resume as well. -

Get Certified
There are certifications for sign language and it is best that you get certified if you want to advance in this field. Make sure that you get a certification that is accredited so that it does not leave you with little value and a lot of wasted time. -

Apply
Whenever there is a job, apply for it. Initially you may not be getting a job of your liking and probably will land shorter time period assignments but that is okay as you will be gaining more experience in the process. Eventually you should get a good job. Educational institutions in particular are always in need of sign language interpreters for students with special needs and that will be an ideal place for you to get a job.
