How to Bring Down Chlorine in an Indoor Pool

Swimming is considered to be one of the best exercises in the world as it involves every single muscle of the human body. Many people, who can afford it, build a swimming pool at home, which adds to the beauty of your house, apart from being a workout activity at your disposal all the time. However, the maintenance of a swimming pool requires a lot of things to be considered, especially if it is indoors.

Chlorine is put in a swimming pool to ensure that the water is clean and does not allow bacteria to grow. If you add too much chlorine to your pool, it can be easily adjusted if the pool is outdoors; however, ensuring the right chlorine level in an indoor pool can be quite tricky.

    Determine the chlorine level

If you get a feeling that the chlorine level in the pool is high, you should use a test strip to check the pool. These strips are easily available in medical stores. Take out a strip from the container and hold it from the edge. Now you can dip the untouched part of the strip in the pool for a couple of seconds. Having taken the strip out of the pool, compare with the chart that is available on the container. Anything between 1.0 to 3.0 ppm of chlorine is acceptable in a swimming pool.

    Calculate the difference

The difference between the current chlorine level and the desired level needs to be calculated. The recommended chlorine level, based on the size of the pool, would be present on the chlorine neutraliser container.

  • 3

    Add the neutralizer

In order to prevent yourself from lowering down the chlorine level too much, you should add only half of the recommended amount. The chlorine neutraliser needs to spread around the pool. You can switch on the pool pump to circulate the neutraliser in the pool.

    Check the chlorine level

Using the test strip, you need to check the chlorine level of the pool once again after 30 minutes. If the desired level of chlorine is still not achieved, you may add the other half of the neutraliser as well. Make sure that you do not end up lowering down the chlorine level too much.
