How to Build a NASCAR Engine
Racing embeds high risk but is one of the most thrilling sports all over the world. Motor racing is further divided in a number of categories, like Formula 1, Moto GP and NASCAR. All racing teams make their own engines but making your own NASCAR engines help out to customise your vehicle according to your needs. This is also to be kept in mind that there are several rules which are to be met while making NASCAR engines and it is not an open field to play. Of course you will need to possess some knowledge of automobile engine before starting up this task of making your own NASCAR engine.
Things Required:
– American-made V8 engine
– Programmable ignition system
Instructions
-
1
The very first rule of NASCAR is that all vehicle engines must be American-made for participating in any NASCAR event. Hence, you will need an American-made V8 engine to begin your task.
-
2
V8 engine is highly recommended due to its power and ability to reach high speeds in limited amount of time. Other sorts of American engines might not provide you the desired winning results in a race.
-
3
It is ideal to select an engine having a size of 385 cubic inches or even less. This size limit has been set by NASCAR itself and no bigger engines are allowed.
-
4
You have to keep your engine between 700 to 800 horsepower (HP) while building it.
-
5
Ensure you tightly fit all the engine parts at their right position. Tightly fit engines will generate more power than the loosened up engines. Moreover, NASCAR engines need to fitted more tightly than other vehicle engines.
-
6
You have to remove the components which are not necessary to race. Fuel injectors, catalytic converters and mufflers have no use in NASCAR engines and unnecessarily increase the weight of your car. Remove such components while building the engine.
-
7
You must have a programmable ignition system in your vehicle to create precise timing of sparks. This will provide some extra boost to your car, especially at the times of pre-determined intervals, and assist you to catch up speed more quickly.
-
8
Extra boost can also be given to your car by tuning the intake and exhaust. This can be very handy when you reach a certain speed of your choice.
-
9
Open up the intake valves of the engine at the earliest and keep them opened until your car stops or reaches below a pre-determined speed. This will increase the air flow into the cylinders of the engine and resultantly increase the speed of your car.
