How to Build a Porch with Roof
It is often good to have a porch in a building or a house so as to add up to the entrance. Basically the porch is a covered platform, with a separate roof at the entrance of a building. More simply, we can say that it is more like a verandah, that can be a simple open or enclosed room and even a gallery connected to a building. While building a house, there is a possibility that you may run short of funds and it may become difficult to build a porch, or due to some other reason you left the idea of porch that time. Now if you need a porch with a roof, you can do it yourself. Follow the quick steps and build your own porch easily.
Things Required:
Pieces of wood with length 4x 4, 2×8 and 2×4 feet.
Heavy duty bolts
Screws
5/8 inch plywood
Roofing felt
Roofing nails
Instructions
-
1
First of all, as you have to make support for the roof posts, dig about one and a half feet deep holes in the ground beside the porch in each corner.
-
2
After placing posts in the dug holes, support with some stones to keep them straight. Later on, fill them with concrete and allow till it dries.
-
3
Now make the frame for the top of the posts by taking wood pieces 2x8 ft long for the length of the porch and same for the width.
-
4
In order to avoid any shortage in measurement while cutting, increase 8 inches in each measurement and arrange them in a rectangular frame by attaching with each other.
-
5
For making cross bars of the frame, cut 2x4 ft long pieces of wood and join them about one and a half foot apart across the frame’s depth.
-
6
Using heavy duty bolts, attach the constructed frame on the top of supporting posts with someone’s help.
-
7
Finally lay the roof on the frame such that the 5/8 inch plywood is outcroppings the frame by at least 2 inches on each side. The plywood can be covered with roofing felt once you have fixed it.
