How to Build Personal Relationships

It’s easy when you first meet a person, say hello, and start chatting. However, it gets extremely difficult for you to maintain the personal ties with that person in the long run. It’s not necessary that the two of you will click, and it’s not necessary that both of you will have the same interests. There might be a few similarities, but not all. Keeping and maintaining an interesting communication with someone can be extremely hard, but there are ways through which you can sound really interesting and can maintain any relationship for a long haul.

    Always try to e-mail or phone your friends or the person you are trying to maintain a relationship with. It’s not mandatory for you to meet them. There are times when the other person lives close by, but you can still call him/her and hold a good conversation. The e-mail should be extremely casual and occasional. It would basically be a start from your side, or maybe a reply in case they have started a conversation first.

    Always talk to them about meeting you during certain timings. Make sure that you arrange a nice lunch, dinner or even a breakfast for them. You must give time to this special person just like you give time to other daily activities. You need to keep a check on the amount of time you are spending on other things and the amount of time you are spending in order to build a long lasting relationship.

    Here’s a tip: people love surprises. Well, it’s true that not all surprises are good surprises, but in this case the surprise must definitely be a good one. You can start off by giving an occasional present. It can be almost anything and depends upon the type of relationship you are trying to build.

    At times, the relationship is too personal, then you can always gift away some flowers. However, in some cases of professional relationships, you can always opt for giving away fruit baskets, even wine or cards.

    You need to respect others and what they have to say. It’s not always about what you are saying and what you want to do with your life. You need to listen to their side of the story as well. J

    ust listen carefully to each and every thing they have to say, and later comment on it so that they realize that you do care about the bond you are sharing with them.
