How to Build Wood Framed Swing Sets

First of all, you need to determine whether to purchase a package deal or the plan for the wooden swing set. A package deal is a bit expensive but it makes the purchasing of all the lumber, hardware and accessories needed for the swing set very easy. However, it is mostly seen that suck packages provide you with inferior lumber. On the other hand, the plan is cheaper and you can purchase any specific lumber of your choice.

Redwood and green treated are the two most commonly used lumber for making swing sets due to their rigor of outdoor extremes. You have to determine what should be the height and length of the swing set you have to make and then decide the dimensions of the lumber accordingly.

Place two of the 2-by-6-by-12 foot wooden boards on flat ground on top of one another. Use an electric drill to make a set of three or four holes at every 32 inches on the boards. Use screws on both sides to tightly fastened the two wooden boards together to form the main top beam of your swing set.

Take two connectors for the posts and place them on either sides of the main beam. Take the electric drill once again and make holes to affix the post connectors to the top beam.

Now set the posts besides the post connectors and drill holes in the posts one by one to affix the legs of the swing set to the beam. You better connect the front legs first and then the back ones. Once done, stand up your swing set in its place.

You can use a 2-by-6-by-8 to add further support and strength to the swing set. Place the lumber piece with one end to the leg of the swing set and mark the point where the post runs down. Predill the holes and affix the lumber to the posts of the swing set.

You can now affix the swing to the wooden frame by following the instructions mentioned on the box.
