How to Clean a Refrigerator That Smells

When it comes to appliances at home, the refrigerator is one of the best inventions ever. It allows a person to store foods of all kinds safely, which can be ready for consumption at a later time without much trouble.

While it keeps food in good condition, it is important that it too is kept in hygienic conditions. Often smells creep into refrigerators due to old food stuck in some corner or a slight milk spillage which can make the odor unbelievably strong. – Baking soda
– Liquid dishwashing soap
– Sponge

    Empty the Refrigerator



    The first step in the process is to remove all the food products that you currently have placed in the refrigerator. Without this, it cannot be cleaned and the desired results cannot be obtained. Once it is empty, turn off the refrigerator.

    Make a Cleaning Solution



    There are two options in this regard. You can either use a half cup of baking soda with warm water enough to fill a sink or you can alternately use soap water, making a dishwashing liquid soap solution in water.

    Remove Shelves



    Next up, remove all shelves from the refrigerator. This will allow you to thoroughly clean the refrigerator without any hurdles.

    Clean the Shelves



    Once you have removed the shelves, it is time to clean them to ensure that they do not have any food sticking to them which may be causing the odor. Clean with the baking soda solution or soap water with a sponge and then wash the shelves. Make sure that you wipe them so that they are dried before they are put back in the refrigerator.

    Clean the Interior



    It is very important that you clean the interior of the refrigerator as well. Wait for sometime after turning off the machine. Clean all internal surfaces with the baking soda solution which will not only clean them but will also be useful in removing any odor attached to the surface.

    In order to stop the smell from coming back, a couple of simple steps can be taken. Place a small box of baking soda in the refrigerator with its top torn off as it can absorb all kinds of odors and makes the refrigerator smell fresh. Also ensure that you remove the foods that may cause odor when you are taking your trash out every week.
