How to Clean a Stainless Steel Watch

Stainless steel is one of the most durable metals used in many utensils, especially cutlery, machines, auto parts and wrist watches. This metal does not corrode easily and remains as it is even after years. However, with frequent use, in particular wrist watches, stainless steel might lose its usual shine. It happens because sweat on your wrist causes dirt to build up, forming a rough and ugly looking coating on your watch. You can get it cleaned from a watch repair shop near your house but you also can save the cost by doing it by yourself at home. Only a few house hold items can be effectively used to clean the grime from your stainless steel watch and you can perform this activity on periodic basis to sustain the glimmer of steel for years.

Things Required:

– pieces of soft, clean cloth
– spare tooth brush
– glass cleaner
– household vinegar
– household baking soda
– water

    You better clean up your watch with a soft cloth to remove the loose dirt from it. Normally, you will find grime accumulated within the crevices of the band and around the edges of the watch face. If you cannot reach those places with the cloth, you can use a spare tooth brush to serve the purpose of dislodging lose dirt.

    You must have a glass cleaner at home. Apply a small quantity of it on the soft cloth and rub the entire wrist watch with it. If you don’t have a glass cleaning liquid, you can simple use vinegar to clean your stainless steel watch.

    To reach the crevices, dip the tooth brush into the glass cleaner or vinegar and scrub the watch band thoroughly. If you have a wrist watch with removable bands, you can simply dislodge them from the watch and soak into the glass cleaner for about 15 minutes before scrubbing with the tooth brush.

    Soak a soft cloth in cold water and clean up the watch face with it. You can rinse the bands with water and then wipe them up with a dry cloth.

    If you still see any signs of grime at any point of your watch, you can use baking soda to remove it. Take a clean, soft cloth and soak it with cold water. Put small amount of baking soda on the wet cloth and thoroughly rub it on the watch band, avoiding the face. Rinse the band afterwards and you will notice the glitter returning to your stainless steel watch.
