Use Eggs to Condition Your Hair at Home

Whether you want to save money or try out a natural treatment, raw eggs can make an excellent conditioner for your hair. They are rich in protein, which can nourish and strengthen your hair to decrease breakage.

If you don’t think eggs can be beneficial for your hair, search online for shampoos which contain egg and you’ll be surprised at how many there are.

So if you have a day off from work, or if it’s the weekend, get some eggs from the fridge and treat your hair yourself at home with an egg conditioning mask.

If you have naturally oily hair, this treatment will also reduce the oil content in your hair, but if your hair is dry as it is, you will need a moisturizing conditioner to use after the egg mask.

Things required:

-1-3 eggs (depending on the length of your hair)
-1-2 tablespoons of olive or coconut oil
-Moisturizing conditioner (if you have dry hair)
-Small cup or bowl
-Brush for application
-Shower cap

    Beat the eggs

First you need to take the eggs and open them up in a small cup or bowl. Include both the yolk and the egg white and start beating it with a whisk.

Keep beating the eggs until they form a smooth mixture which isn’t too thick or too runny.

    Add conditioner if necessary

If you have a moisturizing conditioner for your dry hair, you can add a tablespoon of it to the mixture as well. Alternatively, you can apply the conditioner later, once you are done using the egg mask.

    Apply the egg mask

The application can be a little tricky, because you can’t just cover your head with the mask. You have to take a brush and sequentially cover all sections of your hair.

Start with coating the top layer of a section and then lift the section up to coat the underside. Once you have done this all over your head, take the brush and rub it across the section back and forth from the roots of your hair to the end.

This way you’ll get maximum coverage and no part of your hair will be left out or untreated.

    Wear the shower cap

Once the hair mask is thoroughly applied, cover your hair with a shower cap to prevent the egg mixture from running down onto your face. With time, the mixture will loosen up a little, so you need to dry it out under the sun.

Don’t use a blow dryer or direct heat however, because it will cook the egg and make it much harder to remove later on. Just let the mixture dry out under the sun for about 30 – 50 minutes.

If your skin is sensitive to sunlight you should apply a sunscreen on your face and neck before walking out in the sun.

    Rinse your hair

After about 30 – 50 minutes you can remove the shower cap and rinse your hair under the shower. In order to properly remove the egg conditioner you will need to rinse thoroughly, lifting the upper sections and washing out the underlying layers as well.

Lukewarm (not hot) water is recommended here as cold water will not wash away the egg mixture.
