If you are using the services of a freight broker in order to arrange a load for your shipment, verifying the surety bond of the broker is compulsory. Although, you can get the information about the surety bond on the internet, but the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) doesn’t have the information about the pending bond claims. Therefore, you will have to contact the freight broker’s bonding agent so as to verify your surety bond.

Contacting a freight broker’s bonding agent is not very difficult. However, you need to have all the requisite information about your shipment before contacting the agent.

    First of all, you have to find out the contact information of the bonding agent. You can easily find out the information on the packet (containing all the documents regarding your shipment) which has been provided by your freight broker.

    In case you have not received any kind of packet from the broker, you must get it from him as soon as possible. Furthermore, you must know that some freight brokers are providing their services online. So, you can also get the contact information of the bonding agent on the personal website of the broker.

    You can also visit the FMCSA website to get the required information about your shipment. In order to find the information about your bonding agent, you will have to enter the name of your broker in the ‘Carrier Search’ option on the website. Make sure that the field is clear before entering the name of your broker.

    You may also require the MC number of the broker. If you can’t find the desired search result, go to advanced search option and type as much information as you can. Then, select ‘Report’ option and hit enter.

    In report, you will find all the essential information about your broker. Find the ‘Active or Pending Insurance’ and click on it. You will see a list of different bonding agents; just choose the agent of your broker and make contact with him.

    To verify your surety bond, you will have to tell all the details about your contract with the agent. Therefore, you must keep all the necessary information ready before calling the bonding agent.
