How to Cook Angel Hair Pasta

Angel hair pasta is known as capellini or capellini d’angelo in Italian. It is a delicate and thin pasta which can be prepared quickly. It is extremely delicious, light and flavourful, if nicely cooked and can be served along with tomatoes, garlic or pesto sauce. It can either be presented as a main course or a side dish. Because of its small circumference, angel hair pasta can be cooked very quickly; however, you have to take into account a number of things while cooking it.

Cook time: 10 min
Total time: 25 to 30 min
Yield: 2 to 3 servings
Utensils: Pot of water, bowl, wooden spoon, fork, serving plates.

Ingredients:
Angel hair pasta: 1 pound
Water: 4 to 6 oz
Salt: To taste
Olive oil: As needed

Instructions

  • 1

    Boil water

Fill a large pot of water and put it on a boiler before adding a pinch of salt in it. You must remember that pasta should not be cooked in a smaller pot because it will stick together, and needs enough room to spread out. For each pound of angel hair pasta, you need 4 to 6 oz. of water.

Put the pasta in the pot

Put the desired amount of pasta in the boiling water before you add some drops of olive oil. The purpose of adding the olive oil is to make sure that the pasta does not stick together in the pot.

While stirring the water after small intervals, you need to cook the pasta for three to five minutes. Some people use the angel hair in another recipe which needs to be cooked. In such a scenario, remove the pasta pot from the boiler in 2 and ½ minutes.

Take a bite to check if it is cooked

Having cooked the pasta for the three to five minutes, take out a piece of pasta through a fork. Be careful while taking it out of the pan because you can easily burn your hand, if you are not careful. Wash that piece with cold water and take a bite. If the pasta is soft but still needs a little bite, it means that it is ready. If it is crunchy and hard, cook it for another minute or so.
In order to drain out the water, you should pour the pasta and the water into a colander. You must not wash the pasta if you plan to add some sauces in it. If you want to serve the angel hair pasta cold, then you can rinse it nicely.
