How to Cook Cheeseburgers on the Grill

Grilling burgers is always a fun activity; however, you need to make sure you follow some guidelines, in order to ensure that your burgers are not over cooked. This is especially important when grilling a cheeseburger; a few seconds more than the prescribed melting time, and the cheese will start running off the burger.

Prep time: 10 min
Cooking time: 10 to 15 min
Total time: 20 to 25 min
Yields: 2 servings
Utensils: A grill or stove to cook on,  a spatula, a plate

Ingredients:
Hamburger patties: 2
Hamburger buns: 2
Salt: As required
Pepper: As required
Cheese slices: 2
White cheddar cheese: As required
Mayonnaise: As required
Onion slices: 1 medium sized

Instructions

  • 1

Start by heating up the grill. If you have a gas grill, just turn it on and allow it to heat up on full for about 10 minutes, to cook away any remains of your previous grilling session. Once your grill is hot enough, remove the crisp remains using a wire brush and reduce the heat on the grill to medium high.

  • 2

Now, place the burger patties on the hot grill, add a few dashes of salt and pepper, and allow them to cook for 3 to 4 minutes with the lid shut.

  • 3

Now, flip the burger patties and cook covered for another 3 to 4 minutes. If you want to get some grease out, press the burger with the back of a slotted spoon or spatula. Make sure you do not burn the burger patties while grilling or searing.

  • 4

Cut the burger buns in half using a sharp knife and put them on the grill with the cut side down, about a minute after you flip the burger. Also grill the onion slices, 2 minutes on each side.

  • 5

Once the buns and onions have been grilled, remove them from the heat and put them in a plate.

  • 6

By this time, your burger patties should also be completely done. Turn the heat off, and generously pour white cheddar cheese over the patties. Allow it to melt for about 5 minutes.

  • 7

Now, brush the insides of the buns with mayonnaise, and place the burger patty on the bottom piece of the bun directly from the grill.

  • 8

Top the burger with grilled onions and other condiments of your choice like lettuce, tomatoes, etc, and cover it with the other half of the bun. Serve hot.
