How to Cook with Survival Foods

Survival foods are basically designed to for a very long period of time. You can use these foods whenever you want and many nutritionists believe that their shelf life is about 20 years. They are packed in specially designed cans. The food is dehydrated which is why it remains fresh for a longer period. For use, you will have to hydrate it by adding boiling water. Cook for a good 10 minutes in a saucepan and your survival food will be ready to eat.

Things Required:

– Packaged survival food
– Saucepan
– Bottled water
– Can opener

    Boil water

    First of all, boil 1 ½ cups of water in a kettle or a pan. Make sure you use bottled water for this purpose. You can also use fruit juices to add to the survival food to enhance the taste.

    Add survival food to the saucepan

    Open the survival food can with the help of a can opener and pour it into a saucepan.Make sure you pour all of the food from the can and there are no pieces left.

    Pour boiled water in the saucepan

    Now add the boiling water from the kettle or the pan to the survival food saucepan. Use a wooden spatula to stir the mixture slightly until it is cooked. You must wait for a good 10 minutes for the food to be prepared completely.

    Add vegetables

    To add further taste to the survival food, try to add fresh vegetables to the saucepan. Chop the vegetables you want and add them to the mixture in the saucepan. You can also add spices but make sure they are packed in vacuum plastic bags so that they remain fresh. Using fruit juice instead of bottled water is also another good way to vary the taste of the survival food.
