If there is enough room below the fence, try to squeeze your way to the other side by passing under the barbed wire. The wire will have the most slack in the middle of two adjacent fence posts. This is point where you can prop up the wire and placing a stick under it to create enough room for you to easily cross on the other side from underneath the wire.

You may have a blanket in your backpack which can be a possible means of crossing the fence, especially if you cannot cross from under the fence for some reason. Locate a fence post and throw the blanket over the wire neat the post. Make sure that at least one foot length of barbed wire is covered by the blanket. Grab a hold of the top of the post and pull yourself up. When you are high enough, simply throw a leg over the blanketed portion of the barbed wire and cross over.

If you happen to have a pair of bolt cutters and an appropriate amount of time at your disposal, the best way to cross the fence would be to cut the barbed wire first. Simply stand against the fence and cut the barbed wire at two points. A section of the fence will fall off so that you can cross.

The best way to cross a barbed wire fence is to use a Fence Buddy, a small contraption which attaches on both sides of the wire, making it possible for you to push the wire up or down without snagging yourself. Hikers keep a Fence Buddy in their backpacks all the time so that they would not get stuck too long if they have to cross a barbed wire fence.
