    Ultraviolet therapy

    PUVA therapy is another well-known cure for Vitiligo. The therapy consists of a combination of a medication called Psoralen along with UVA ultraviolet light treatment. The medication is given in the form of pills to the patient, thus making the patient’s skin sensitive to light. The patient is then exposed to ultraviolet light twice every month, with the treatment set to continue for duration of nearly a year. In this process 50-70% of the pigmentation is expected to return on the affected area of the patient’s skin. However, the PUVA treatment also has side effects, which includes sunburn, freckling and an increased risk of cancer.

    Calcipotriene

    Another well-known medication for Vitiligo is Calcipotriene. It’s a Vitamin D derivative, used topically along with the combination of either corticosteroids or ultraviolet lights. This treatments induces a surplus of Vitamin D in the body to help get rid of the de-pigmentation of the skin.



    Another unorthodox measure for the treatment of Vitiligo is tattooing or micropigmentation. This can be used only in case of a very slight depigmentation. A very small amount of pigment is added to the affected part of the skin, and is termed as the best possible solution for people suffering from this disorder around their lips or nose.
