How to Deal with a Difficult Cubicle Mate
Most of us work in companies that like to have their employees sit in various sized cubicles to organise floor space. Most cubicles share a common wall through which all the noise and activities of your co-workers can be heard. Some cubicles at work can have more than one employee sharing the confined space. Add to this is the various office equipment like monitors, computers or telephones and you end up with a small area in which to work. If the person sharing your cubicle is difficult, the work-place can become a nightmare for you. There are some easy things to do to help you deal with a difficult cubicle mate.

1
Wear Headphones:
If it is allowed in your work-place, you can easily ignore your difficult cubicle mate by wearing good quality headphones. Listen to some pleasant music that can help you stay motivated throughout the day. Be sure to keep the volume at a respectable level so that you can hear your co-workers or boss. -
2
Move to a quiet place:
Move to another part of the office which is quiet and away from your difficult cubicle mate. Hopefully you moving will send a strong signal that you are annoyed and want to do your work in peace. -
3
Concentrate on your own Work:
Instead of worrying about your difficult cubicle mate, try to focus and concentrate on your own work. By staying busy completing your own tasks, you will find the time going by much quicker at work and your difficult cubicle mate will not be a hindrance to you. -
4
Communicate with your Difficult Cubicle Mate:
Have an open and honest conversation with your difficult cubicle mate. Discuss with him or her about the things that they might do to irritate or upset you while working in the same cubicle. Often times someone does not know that they are bothering the other person until an honest conversation comes up. By communicating your issues with your difficult cubicle mate, hopefully their bad habits will stop. -
5
Talk to other Co-workers:
Discuss with other co-workers in your office about your difficult cubicle mate. Someone may have already dealt with their annoying habits and could help provide a solution for you. However, whenever discussing a difficult cubicle mate with other co-workers, be sure to keep it discrete. -
6
Talk to your Boss:
If all of the methods for dealing with your difficult cubicle mate have not worked, then it is probably time to have a meeting with your boss to discuss the situation. Hopefully your boss will have the proper course of action to take like moving you to a different cubicle or floor of the office so that you may finally get some relief from your difficult cubicle mate.
