How to Deal With Cults
A cult typically defines a group with odd values or practices. These groups can be very dangerous, as many of them indoctrinate and brainwash many young people into believing twisted realities of common beliefs. There is nothing wrong with joining a group or social circle, but when it comes to a cult, you should definitely stay away. If you or someone close to you is in a cult then there are many things that you can do to help. Follow some basic guidelines and break free from the shackles of having dubious people tell you what to do or how to live your life.

Educate yourself
You should first educate yourself about how various cults can control someone. It is very important to understand that being a victim of a cult does not mean that there is something wrong with you or a loved one. You will soon discover that many cults prey on a particular type of people to control and reap the benefits of having them give up everything for some new age psycho babble that usually doesn’t make any sense and is extremely expensive.

Research cults
Use different sources like the library and the internet to conduct detailed research on cults. You will be surprised to find so many different groups throughout the world. Although most are relatively harmless, there are some that are dangerous and pose a serious threat to others. Some cults are extremely violent and encourage theft and vandalism. Try to do as much research as possible about any particular cult that you or a loved one may be a victim of.

Talk to the victim
Once you have properly researched a particular cult, it is a good idea to sit down with the person that you feel is being influenced by this group and have a conversation. Remember not to be forceful or demeaning in any way. Just try to show the person all the information that you have gathered and help him/her make sense of it. You should also point out the financial burden the cult is on the person. If he or she is still not willing to hear what you have to say, leave a folder with all the information you gathered on a table for them to look at later.

Seek law enforcement help
If you feel that the person being influenced by a particular cult is in danger of breaking the law or doing something that might be criminal in nature, contact the local law enforcement agencies for guidance. Let them know about the cult and what they are up to in your area.
