1
Gather items
You will require towels, scissors and water during the delivery stage of the cat. It is important that you should keep all these things at arms length so that you can grab what you need without wasting any time. -
2
Contact the veterinarian
If you feel that you cat is about to give birth, you should immediately consult your veterinarian and jot down the instructions. This will ensure that you will know what you are doing as an expert has given some instructions. -
3
Choose an appropriate location
The next most important thing is to choose an appropriate location for your cat. Note that you must choose a place that is a little isolated and warm, so that your cat will not be troubled. In addition, you must place towels at the chosen place, so the cat would be able to lie on it with her kittens. It is strongly advised that the place should not be congested and should be spacious enough to keep the kittens and cat. -
4
Keep a close eye on your cat
You should keep a close eye on your cat. This does not mean that you should keep playing with her all the time but you must closely look for her behavioural changes after a couple of minutes. This will help you in being present at the time of delivery and take good care of your cat. Remember that the birth of a kitten might take up to 60 minutes and is initiated within 20 minutes of the initial contraction. -
5
Separate the kittens
After the cat has given birth, it is suggested that you should separate kittens from the cat by wrapping up them in a towel. You should rub the kitten and cut the umbilical cord with the help of scissors if the cat has not chewed it. -
6
Ensure nursing of kittens
Each kitten will be delivered with a gap of 15-45 minutes and you must ensure that the mother starts nursing the kittens.
