How to Digitally Photograph Dark and Light Objects Together

If you are new at photography, then you might not know how to digitally photograph a scene which includes dark and light objects together. In such cases, it usually happens that you take a picture and the image end up without any detail on the dark images present in the scene. Therefore, it is really important to learn the basics of focusing when it comes to capturing such scenes. The process is not much difficult, yet, you will need some patience, as this technique takes some time to capture the image with high details on the dark objects as well.

    First of all, you need to determine a scene which includes both the light and dark images. For that purpose, you can locate a place in a room where light is being placed on a bigger object, and the other objects are hidden under the shadow. You can also look for such scene outside you home.

    Once you are done with locating a scene you want to capture, you can set up you camera. Press the power button on top of your camera and start focusing the scene. Here, you should only focus the darker objects present in the scene. If you have auto focus on, then you can just view the darker images in your camera and slightly press the button which you use to take pictures. The camera software will start adjusting the focus automatically.

    If you do not have auto focus on, or you have an advanced camera with high resolution lens installed on it, then you can manually focus the dark objects present in the scene.

    Once you are done with focusing the dark objects, you can move slightly backwards and bring the whole scene, including the bright objects, in front of camera lens. If you camera has auto focus on, then you should not release the button while you move backwards.

    You can now press the button all way down to capture the scene. You can then take pictures from different angles and experiment with different lighting options to become an expert in it.
