How to Do a Simple Lions Barrage

If you are a fan of the popular anime Naruto, you will surely be familiar with the Lions Barrage, part of the Lion Combo that Sasuke Uchiha first executed in his preliminary round match during the chunin exam. The combo is a variant of Lee’s Front Lotus. Sasuke used his Sharingan to copy the first part of the Front Lotus, but added an original move at the end, Lions Barrage, which involves him kicking his opponent towards the ground with massive force.

You can learn to perform a simple version of Lions Barrage as well, though it will require some solid commitment and patience.

    The first thing that you need to do to learn a simple Lions Barrage is to practice your balance on your right foot and right arm. Stay in that position for around five to ten seconds and then switch to the left foot and left hand. Repeat this a few times in order to perfect your balance. Do not forget to take breaks after a few switches, as you find it harder to maintain balance once your body starts getting tired.

    After you have practiced and nearly perfected your balance, move on to practice your kick. With the right foot and right hand on the ground, kick the left foot in the air. Do this a number of times and then switch to the left foot and left hand and kick the air with your right foot. Again, do this a number of times. Do not kick with too much force initially, as it may throw your balance off. Keep the kicks gentle in the beginning and when you start feeling confident, make them more solid.

    After you are done practising your balance and kicks, move on to practising your jump. You will need to increase your air time if you want to successfully execute the Lions Barrage. Work on your jumps by doing two to three sets of 50 jumps. After a few days, add a little weight to your legs to make yourself exert more to attain the same height in jump. Once you remove those weights, you will be jumping significantly higher than before.

    After you see a substantial improvement in your jumps, start working on your heel drops. This is bound to take a lot of you, so start with 10 heel drops, though gradually increase the number as you find yourself getting in rhythm.

    Now try doing all these things together. Start off by quickly balancing yourself on your foot and corresponding hand, kicking-up with the opposite foot, jumping and executing a heel drop. This will require plenty of practice. Keep practicing unless you are satisfied with your version of Lions Barrage.
