How to Do Hand Grip Exercises

A firm hand grip is a great help to construction worker as much as it is to a typist and a musician and people in other trades. A person possibly can lose hand grip with growing age, but by doing some exercises the firmness of the hand grip can be retained in the longer run. An important point to understand here is that having just toughness in the hand does not improve the hand grip. The hand should have flexibility and power. This makes hand stretching exercises also a part of efforts to increase hand grip.

    Bending Fists

    Squeezing fists for a few minutes with forearms stretched out straight and bending the squeezed fists downward is the first step in hand stretching. Repeating the process will help loosen the hand muscles and nerves through to forearms.

    Shaking Fists

    Shaking fists with both hands stretched on sides and repeating the process for a few minutes help loosen the fists nerves and let hands relax. Do this process every time you do a power building exercise or an exercise to stretch your hand and fingers. This will let your fingers loosen up and relax, and thus your are ready for another strength developing exercise soon after the first one.

    Pointing Fingers Upward

    With both hands stretched out straight with palms facing outwards, try to point out fingers upward as much as you can and keep them at the same position for about five seconds. Repeat the process before loosening up fingers again.

    Hand Gripper

    Use of hand gripper to increase hands strength is one of the most done exercises. Gripper can be easily bought from general store. Squeezing the gripper with fingers while holding it in one hand and then repeating the process with both hands will help strengthen hand grip.

    Use of Weight

    Holding weight of about 10 pounds in the fist while forearm stretched on the thigh and rolling down the weight downwards and then rolling up can increase the hand grip. Repeating the process by sitting on a chair helps increase power in the hand.
