This is why some people are now looking to learn self defense that sees them use a weapon to do so.

Iaido is a Japanese martial art, which is usually performed with a sword. The basic logic and movements behind it see you use your sword and strike against your opponent, cleaning the blade after you do so and then placing it back in its scabbard.

    Get equipment and join group/classes

The first thing you need to realize is that you can’t practice or learn to do Iaido on your own. You are going to need the help of someone who knows what they are doing, which is why you need to join a group or a class where they practice Iaido, where an expert teaches how to do it.

Before you join the class, you need to buy all the protective gear that you need going into the class, because you don’t want to pick up any injuries that might end up causing you to get hurt.

Start learning with wooden sword and then move up

When you start learning Iaido and performing routines with it, you need to spend the initial part of your training using a wooden sword. Now this might seem like a rather foolish thing to do, but given how dangerous swords can be, this is the safest way to go about this and the best way to learn how to do Iaido really fast.

Once you have mastered the art by performing with a wooden sword, you can move up to an actual sword, should your trainer think you are ready for it.

    Practice

As is the case with all things, the best way for you to perform and get better at Iaido is to spend a lot of time practicing. You can stay back after class hours and look to perfect your skills, or you can spend extra time at home perfecting what it is that you learned in class that day.

Either way, you need to remember to practice.
