First of all, you should try to get as much information about the shim sham tap dance as possible because it will help you in understanding the sequence of steps of the dance.

Before starting the dance, make sure the floor should be smooth or levelled. Because the steps of this dance require complete balance and if the floor is not smooth, it can make uncomfortable and you may fall down during performance.

While starting the shim sham tap dance, you should stomp your right foot. You should also keep this thing in mind that stomp does not bear any weight.

Then you should spank the step on your right foot. A spank is equal to back rush and you should perform this step carefully. Start slowly and then pace it up gradually.

After completing the step, you should repeat it with the other foot making sure that you are doing it in proper order. After that, stomp on your right foot again.

Now you should do the brush ball change on the right foot making sure that the change occurs on the left side. Now again do the stomp spank or back rush step on the right foot.
